Since the Covid-19 has come, many people’s jobs have gotten affected and many delivery men have been working hard to earn the basic salaries. Many workers struggle to get even a single tip for the day which used to be their extra earning or additional earnings. Also, various restaurants have cut the pay of their employees since there are fewer sales and fewer people are interested in buying food from outside due to the pandemic.
In these hard times, social media influencers and users are following a Venmo Challenge which requires social media influencers or a simple user to pool out money for donation for a service industry worker. It should be for a normal cause and the people pitch in to pay their share of donation, once the donation reaches the limit or the amount they’ve set to be enough for the employee/person, the initiator withdraws the money from the account and renders it to the employee/person.
The same incident took place with an 89-year-old pizza delivery man whose simplicity was winning hearts on the internet. Many videos of Derlin Newey were shared on the social media platforms where he appeared to deliver the pizza with the same tagline always, “Hello, are you looking for pizza?”
The Valdezes who usually used to order pizza from Newey’s outlet posted several videos of him asking the same question with the same simplicity. Apparently, this drew the attention of the public and many commented that why the old man is still working. This certain question made the Valdezes accumulate donations for Newey and when he received it, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Also, according to sources, Newey didn’t know about the whole social media game as well, he was overwhelmed with happiness.
