A flight attendant of American Airlines has tested positive for coronavirus a few days after losing her health benefits. Erica Carmine was diagnosed with coronavirus and was furloughed earlier this year. Unfortunately, her health benefits also got expired days before she was declared positive for the novel pandemic.
She urged Congress to help her in the worst situation she has been posted to and shared a post on her social media account that read, “As a furloughed flight attendant, I lost my health insurance on Oct 15. Just diagnosed with COVID, with a pre-existing heart condition, I am at high risk. Will your political games cost me my life?”
When the local media contacted her, she said that she had just taken leave like any other flight attendant and employee of any other business but she has now lost a lot of things which would take a lot of time to rebuild. Also, many employees have been laid off due to the economic slowdown that has been caused by the scare of this novel pandemic.
While talking to local media, she said, “I ended up giving up my apartment because I took that leave; I could no longer afford my home. I had to move out of state. I ended up still contracting the virus losing my job, and now only five days after losing my health care benefits I have a positive COVID test.”
According to reports and sources, American Airlines has furloughed around 19,000 employees this year after the pandemic left the airlines not working for many months.
