On the Reddit’s very famous platform “Am I the A–hole,” a user made a revelation that a sister-in-law or bride to her brother is demanding to keep her mother’s only left jewelry as the memory.
The user claimed that the jewelry was given to her right after her mother died when she was just 6 years old and that those belongings are very close to her. “My mom died when I was 6, so I don’t have many memories with her. However, she left me all of her jewelry, with a handwritten note about the significance of each piece. Since I have so few memories of my mom, I really treasure her jewelry. Going through life knowing that she’s missing so many of my milestones is devastating, so I like to wear her jewelry during big events so that it’s like she’s with me,” the user wrote on Reddit.
The user also mentioned about the huge age gap between her and her brother and claimed that they’re more like cousins rather than siblings. “My brother was from my mom’s first marriage, and there’s a 16 year age gap between us (he’s 33, I’m 17), so we don’t have a sibling relationship, we’re more like cousins. We see each other a few times a year and have a good relationship, but we aren’t super close,” she added.
Also, according to the post, the user had lent a few of her mother’s jewelry to the bride and expected that the bride would return it after the ceremony. However, the bride tried to keep the belongings claiming that it is more sentimental to her being the bride.
The user also wrote, “I said no, but my brother told me to give her them since they’re from his mom too. But I don’t think that’s fair, since the jewelry has no significance for his paternal family.”
Well, other users came in support of the person who posted the whole information and claimed that she owns it as it was her mother’s last gifts or belongings to her.
