Southern Water to pay the penalty price of £126 million because of spilling wastewater from its sewage plants into the environment. Also, the company has been caught of deliberately passing wrong information concerning the matter.
The CEO of Water Regulator services, Rachel Fletcher said that they were completely shocked with the entire situation, while all Southern Water had to say is –it was sorry about the particular incident of wastewater spillage.
However, the Environment Agency has taken matters into their hands and filed for a criminal investigation against the case. Also, the Agency has been given full power to take legal actions against Southern Water Company if any evidence is gathered against the company’s intentions of causing any harm to the environment.
The Environmental Agency released a statement saying that it is making its own criminal investigation against Southern Water, as the company has been found to be breaching the permits at some of its sites of releasing wastewater.
Southern will be paying around £123 million to its customer and £3 million as a fine for the breaching the environmental policies. As Southern addressed its mistakes and co-operated with all the investigations the penalty imposed on the company was comparatively less.
